Question by baby1or2: Twin pregnancy?
I'm 16 weeks pregnant with twins. How soon can you feel the babies' movements? Also, when are the doctors able to tell the gender of the babies?? Anyone that's pregnant with twins or was pregnant with twins, please advise. This is our first pregnancy and my husband and I are extremely excited. Also, when did you deliver? I heard with twin pregnancies, the babies usually come earlier than expected. Thank you for reading this message and taking the time to answer my questions.

i dont have twins but i know for a first time mom it could take between 17 and 20 weeks to feel the first movement(all women are dif) also with wins you can useaully feel them early. you can tell the gender at 20 weeks.

You probably won’t feel your baby kick until sometime between 16 and 22 weeks, even though they started moving at 7 or 8 weeks and you may have already witnessed their acrobatics if you’ve had an ultrasound.
Most of the time one should be able to tell the sex of the baby by about 20 weeks and very often even at sixteen. With modern equipment, the diagnosis can be made even as early as 11 to 12 weeks. On the other hand, as the correct visualization of any fetal part depends of a host of factors such as fetal position, amount of liquor and thickness of the abdominal wall, on occasions they cannot be certain about the sex even at 28 weeks.
And just how accurate is the diagnosis of fetal gender by ultrasound? Well, I have to say that it should be very accurate (somewhere between 95 and 100% at 20 weeks), particularly after about 20 weeks, or even sixteen. However I must say again that one must remember the sonologist may not always get a good view of the perineum (private parts) of the fetus for a variety of reasons and therefore may not furnish you with an “accurate” answer.
My wife had our twins at 37 weeks … and they did great. Sooooo … congratulations!
I’m very excited for you! Not only are you becoming a mother, but of twins to boot! It is smart to start asking questions and become more informed about your unique situation.
I felt my twins move at around 19 weeks (this was also a second pregnancy for me). The experience will be different for every woman and may depend on your body and how active your babies are. I know another twin mother that (in first pregnancy) did not feel her twins move until 23 weeks, so do not get too worried if it takes some time.
Generally, 20 weeks is when you can find out gender and sometimes a bit sooner. My doctor was able to tell me I was having two boys at just 16 weeks.
I went into labor at 36 weeks and delivered vaginally with an epidural. My first baby was head down and came out easily. My second baby had to be turned and was born a whopping 45 minutes later! I delivered in the operating room, which is the protocol at my particular hospital for twin birth. It’s a much more technical environment than giving birth in your own hospital room or family birthing center. The delivery went pretty smoothly, but my boys did have to be in the NICU for about 5 days due to jaundice and some very minor breathing issues. It is true that about 50% of twins are born prematurely (before 37) weeks. So definitely speak with your doctor about signs of preterm labor.
I wish you the best of luck!
