Question by Mommy to Sammy: Question on twin pregnancy. How far along to know if they are identical or fraternal?
Thanks...
Thanks for the first answer. I just found out I am pregnant with twins, and I didn't think to ask the U/S tech if she could tell if they were I or F.
Sarah...good luck with your pregnancy.

  1. Identical twins can:
    - either share an amniotic sac
    - have seperate sacs and share a placenta
    - are always the same sex
    - most the time share the same blood type
    Fraternal twins can:
    - have seperate sacs
    - have seperate placentas
    - can be a boy/girl or the same sex
    - can share the same blood type or have different blood types

They can sometimes tell with a good ultrasound machine, and after birth they can test the placentas. U can also get dna testing done after birth.
