Can you plan a twin pregnancy? Or increase the chance of having twins?

Question by MG B: Can you plan a twin pregnancy? Or increase the chance of having twins?
Okay, so a kind of odd question, and not something im trying to do as i have no plans for having another for a long long time, but im intrigued ... is there a way of increasing your chance of having twins.
Obviously IVF treatments where they implant two or more eggs increases the chance. But i mean in a more natural way? Like can you take medication that makes you produce more than one egg a month?

Well in the Tongan culture they swear by eating sweet potatoes/yams/kumara as increasing your chances. Other cultures (I can't remember which but it was more than one) swear by eating mangoes.

So there you go - i think it's more likely a genetic thing within those cultures, but you never know? :-)

  1. Wouldn’t that be amazing! But yet Fertility drugs can increase this as high as 1 in 38; futher more Clomid can with 1 and 5 babies!

    More natural ways:

Another theory is if you are over 30, because FSH levels can cause some ovaries to be over stimulated…

You eat a pre-pregnancy diet rich in dairy and animal protein.

“A study performed by Gary Steinman, MD of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, compared the twin birth rate of Vegan Moms (moms who eat no animal products, including milk) to those Moms that consumed dairy and other animal products. It turns out that the milk-drinking moms were five times more likely to have twins over the Vegan moms.”

Of course the natural ways are all in theory, but hey doesn’t hurt to try sometimes! They are worth it!

    Lots of baby dust

  2. I’m 15 weeks pregnant with twins.
I fell after releasing 2 eggs while taking clomid.
I knew I had 2 eggs that month because they scan your ovaries before they are released.
So I guess if you really wanted twins you could ask a fertility specialist about being prescribed clomid but be sure to have the ovary scans done as you DO NOT want to fall pregnant with 5 babies… very risky for you and the babies.
